Agnieszka Pędrak

Hi, I'm Agnieszka (usually I go by the short: Aga), welcome to my blog! I hold a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the School of Linguistic, Speech and Communication Sciences at Trinity College Dublin (Ireland). My research project investigated Polish supplementary schooling in Ireland from a sociolinguistic perspective. My interests explore heritage language maintenance/development and identity creation in (Polish) migrant children, parents, and teachers in Ireland. Since 2013, I have been engaged in research and work in the field of childhood bilingualism in the context of migration. Firstly, through my Master's degree project focusing on bilingualism of Polish migrant children in Ireland and the UK, then through teaching Polish language and literature in supplementary schools in Ireland and co-creating various initiatives promoting knowledge about bilingualism among migrant families and teachers in Ireland and abroad, such as Mother Tongues, and Forum Of Heritage Language Coalitions in Europe (FOHLC Europe). Since in 2015 I migrated to Ireland where my daughter was born, my perspective on bilingualism has been undoubtedly enriched on many levels. Our bilingual family life brings a lot of joy, mutual learning and inspiration on a daily basis.
